Lakehead Historians Explore Social Impacts of Forestry: Comparing Declining Industry in Canada and Finland to Boom in Uruguay
Lakehead History Professors Drs. Michel Beaulieu and Ronald Harpelle, both members of the Lakehead University Centre for Northern Studies (CNS), attended an international seminar, meetings, and workshops in Montevideo, Uruguay from December 7 to 16. The Big Finn Hall film shoot which lasted 9 days in late June was a huge success. With a crew of 35, and over 200 extras, 50 actors with speaking roles and two Finnish film stars, this shoot was bigger and better than ever. [Read more] August 26, 2010

Professor's Television Series on International Development to Premiere on TFO
Dr. Ronald Harpelle's latest documentary project will air on TFO every Wednesday from April 7 to May 12, 2010. The television series was produced over the last three years and it focuses on research for development. The main themes for the series are Water, Women, Politics, Health, ICTs and BRICs. The films follow Dr. Harpelle and his colleague, Dr. Bruce Muirhead from the University of Waterloo, as they meet people who are working hard to make a difference in the lives of the world's poor. Michel Beaulieu has studied and written extensively about film and he has been involved in the making of several local films over the years.
